A few days ago, I was driving home on I20 in the left hand lane. Somebody cut the person off behind me and ended up driving right up close to my bumper. I hate when cars do that, but I have been trying to be a safer driver lately and not brake checking like I used to! I looked in my rearview mirror and saw the truck that was cut off driving on the left hand shoulder trying to pass the jerk who was still just inches from hitting me.The car behind me jerked over onto the shoulder in order to keep the other car from passing. Now BOTH cars were on the shoulder of I20, going 80 mph.
I was incredibly nervous because I'm a timid driver as it is, and adding these idiots into the mix was just making it a million times worse. They continued to jump from left lane to right lane back to left lane and to the shoulder as if they were racecars drafting. At one point, they drove directly next to each other. Both had their windows down, and I can only guess that they were screaming obscenities at each other.
Luckily, my exit was soon, and I got off the interstate quickly, breathing a huge sigh of relief when I was out of their way. And that's when I got really angry about what happened. Whether someone cut you off or not, there is no excuse for driving like that. We were going 80 miles an hour! There is no place more dangerous to drive like that. It really upsets me when people risk not only their lives but all the other drivers' lives just because they are mad.
I guess people not knowing how to drive will be a problem we have forever. Word to the wise: If you need to get somewhere at a certain time, leave early.
I know what you mean. Just the other day, I was stopped at a red light that had turned green. I waited, but the vehicle in front of me wasn't moving. I barely tapped my horn. The driver looks at me in his rear view mirrow and gives me the middle finger. He finally moves, but very slow. When appropriate, I go around him. The next thing I know, he is in front of me, slamming on his brakes. He gets out of his car and is walking back toward me. OMG. I rolled down my window and told him to get his *#@* back in his car and quit acting stupid.
ReplyDeleteRoad rage is dangerous, so be careful. Some people have lost their life over just trying to be in too big of a rush. I have drove many miles and I have found that if you have a little patience and let the driver that is in a hurry go ahead you will past them if they are in an accident. You will still arrive safely.
ReplyDeleteI'm agree with you on this one. I witnessed a road rage similar, but the driver, purposely stopped his car on 3132, and caused a chain reaction of cars nearly hitting each other. He got out of his car, pulled his gun out and on the man, then got back in his car and drove off. I always wonder in cases like this is where are the police when you need them.
ReplyDeleteYes, safety should always come first. Yesterday as I was driving, my cell phone fell on the floor. It began to ring soon after, and I thought about bending down to pick it up while I was driving. I am a Realtor and I knew it was a business call. I thought, but as hard as it was for me to do...I let it ring. I thought of all the stories I have heard of people wrecking and dying when they went to pick something up. I finally stopped, picked up my phone, checked my voice message, and was glad that I was alive to do so.
ReplyDeleteI drive 45 miles, one-way, to come to school--on Highway 1. I've had some tense moments, mostly with speeding pickups and 18-wheelers. I maintain my speed and let them pass me when they can (that road's busy these days). I don't allow myself to get caught up in angry driving. Just stay safe! And turn off your phone while you're driving! I had being tailgated by or driving behind someone talking on the phone!
